New media is not just a tool; it is a worldwide condition organized by digital networks that carry emotion, information, and experience.
This project reimagines the Rackham Building as Detroit's new public interface for the digital age. As media technologies accelerate, the building becomes a civic engine for digital production, performance, and learning. The renovation centers on three design tenets:
- Cost-effectiveness through salvaged materials, simple systems, and strategic subtraction/repair of the existing;
- Contemporary ornamentation that aligns the building's public face with current Detroit identities and narratives;
- Full code compliance and expanded accessibility to improve safety and quality of circulation.
